Despite the extension of SIM card registration as announced by the Communications Ministers, unregistered SIM cards will not enjoy some services starting from August.
The new window of opportunity, which pushes back the deadline to Friday, September 30, will be evaluated at the end of August, and those who haven’t registered yet will suffer the consequences, according to Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.
The deadline “will be reviewed at the end of this month, and any SIM that has not been fully registered by the end of August will be prevented from accessing certain services,” she said, “including voice and data services.”
The cost of using unregistered SIMs will also increase.
She stated that the complete list of sanctions would be revealed in September.
“Please refrain from blaming your service provider if you meet that fate as a result of your own inaction. Being prepared means being forewarned,” she added.
