Lydia Forson clashes with tweep over SIM Card re-registration

Lydia Forson went ballistic when a Twitter user took to the microblogging platform to tweet what she described as a “nonsense” post in relation to the SIM card re-registration exercise.

The Ghanaian actress has been very vocal about the exercise since it began and decried the tedious process citizens have had to go through to link their SIM cards with the Ghana Card.

After the deadline was extended to 30 September, Lydia put out a tweet to defend why some Ghanaians have been defiant towards the exercise.

She wrote: “People keep saying Ghanaians like to procrastinate; and while that maybe true sometimes, I don’t know anyone who wants to take hours off productive time to register for a card/sim.”

In reaction to the post, a tweep tweeted chiding Lydia for making “excuses” for reluctant Ghanaians who don’t value the exercise.

“No excuses, if it was free money being shared, you will see how Ghanaians will be jumping over themselves to be paid. Just go and register your SIM card for your own security against cyber fraudsters defrauding you.”

Lydia responded to the tweep, writing: “Kwasia even you, you’re here tweeting nonsense for free money let alone someone who’s hungry.

“You want poor people to stop their hustle to stand in long lines and risk going to be hungry, for what? You people just FOOL that’s why you’re writing this from a fake account.”

The Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu announced the new extension date during a press briefing held today, Sunday, July 31, 2022.

She told the press, “The programme will be extended to 30 September to end the anniversary of its commencement which will give us a full year. Any sim that has not been registered by end of August will be barred from receiving services.”
