Tears gush out as handkerchiefs went up and down on people’s face.They were not being used to wipe sweats but tears. That was the mood at the forecourt of the State House in Accra Friday morning.

Major Maxwell Adam Mahama met his untimely death last Monday,29th May 2017 when some residents of Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region, lynched him in a case of mistaken identity. He was thrashed, stoned and burnt after he had fallen unconscious.

The then young Captain pleaded with his killers to spare his life, but no one was ready to listen to him. His gruesome death has widely been condemned by Ghanaians with a resolve to end all cases of mob injustice.

Hundreds of people gathered to pay their last respects to the hitherto brilliant career and life of a senior military officer, have been cut short by the will of some natives of his motherland – Ghana.

With red and black colours dominating the ambiance of colors at the forecourt of the State House, some of the mourners, including late Major Mahama’s family members, schoolmates, church members, friends, work colleagues, and well-wishers intermittently cried.
