Midland Savings and Loans has today, Monday 23rd July 2018 issue another statement this time admitting their fault and reveals they have suspended 5 staff who were “Present and couldn’t” do anything about the assault.
A video went viral on Friday 20th July 2018 of a woman being beaten by a police officer in the banking hall of Midland Savings and Loans. The officer, Lance Corporal Frederick Amanor aka Skalla could be seen punching, slapping and dragging Madam Patience Safo who was holding on desperately to her 3 months old baby on the floor.
According to the woman, she went to the bank to withdraw GHS270 she had deposited at the bank. She had been there for 7 working days for it but she kept being turned away but on that fateful day, she refused to go until she gets her money and that was the treatment she received.
On Friday, that the news broke, Midland Savings and loans released the statement condemning that act and distancing themselves from the incident.
This sparked anger among Ghanaians considering the fact not even a single person from the bank staff was seen making an attempt to stop the police officer. In fact, they were laughing at the woman when she was being beaten like an armed robber.
Well, after the backlash, the Savings and loans bank has released another statement apologizing for the inaction of their staff and has revealed 5 staff has been released.
