Former First lady of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has stated that wearing miniskirts is not a yardstick for men to rape ladies.

She also disclosed that she was fond of wearing miniskirts when she was a student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and that wearing miniskirts does not make one bad.

The wife of the former President also stated that she is not one of those who judge and criticise ladies for wearing revealing clothes.

“I don’t…no I don’t. I was one of the people who said it is wrong for people to think that because style is a fashion, it makes the person who wears it bad. No, that is not it…the person just wants to be fashionable and wear a miniskirt, why not”, she added.

Nana Konadu also revealed that she never wore hot pants which came after miniskirts, but her colleagues did.

They were wearing hot pants, I never wore a hot pant anyway. They were wearing hot pants in TECH…after the miniskirts came the hot pants and then came the midi and the maxi. It is fashion and should not be the basis for people to want to rape girls. That is dangerous”, she stated.

This comes as a result of some tertiary institutions including the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), banned the wearing of skimpy dresses two years ago.
