On Saturday, March 1, 2025, residents of Akrokerri in the Ashanti Region awoke to the horrifying news that a mother in her late thirties and her daughter, age two, had been discovered dead in a bush outside the town.
Akrokerri Fie Assemblyman Andy Mensah Kyeremeh and Odumasi Electoral Area Unit Committee Chairman Owusu Michael were informed of the terrible event at approximately 8:20 a.m. and hurried to the scene, according to a police report.
Law enforcement officials responded right away after they reported the case at the Akrokerri police station.
ASP Duke Amoo, the District Crime Officer, led a team including Chief Inspector Isaac Nyamekye, Detective Inspector George Sefah, and Detective Corporal Evans Marfo to the crime scene.
The mom and her daughter were discovered dead and supine, around 30 meters apart, when they arrived.
Unsettling information was discovered upon closer examination. Blood clots and a chopped dreadlock were found at a different spot, some 20 meters away, indicating that there had been a struggle before the victims were abandoned in the jungle.
Five meters away from the bloodstains, a live BB cartridge was also found. Suspicions of foul play increased when several signs of assault were found on the remains.
For preservation, identification, and autopsy, the bodies have been taken to the Obuasi/Dadwen OD mortuary. The case’s detective inspector, George Sefah, promised that the District Coroner will receive all required paperwork for additional action.
“An announcement will be made on local FM stations to solicit information from the public to aid in investigations. We will keep the public updated on any new developments,” the police stated.
Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist in solving the case.
