GH¢17.1m paid as interest to MoMo subscribers for Q1 2019 by MTN GH

Once again, MTN Ghana has started payment of interest to Mobile Money Users on its platform. According to the management of MTN Mobile money, the interest to be shared for the first quarter of 2019 is over GH¢17.1 million. In all, 10,630 175 customers will benefit from interest on the MOMO.

Customers of MTN Ghana who earned interest on their MOMO began to receive the interest in their wallet from 28, 2019. The payment was done in collaboration with the 17 partner banks of MTN Mobile Money.

MTN Mobile Money service is ISO 27001 certified and has over 10 million active users with over 115,000 active agents and 5000 canvassers as well as over 67,000 merchant points across the country

This first quarter payment brings to the total of GH?156.2 Million in interest paid to Mobile Money customers from the inception of interest payment in 2016 to March 2019.

The General Manager of MTN Financial Services, Eli Hini speaking to the media on the interest payment said: “MTN’s consistent honoring of interest payments attest to our commitment in ensuring that customers of MTN Mobile Money enjoy the full benefits of the service.”

He further urged subscribers to learn the habit of keeping money on their wallet to avoid the many risks that go with carrying physical cash.

“Keeping money in your wallet helps you to accrue more interest,” he added.

“MTN Mobile Money subscribers are continuously cautioned to be vigilant and wary of fraudsters. MTN has a robust governance structure in place that safeguards the data and privacy of its customers and MTN Mobile Money service is committed to providing the highest level of security to protect its users,” Eli Hini further stated.
