Muslim lady ‘rejected’ by Ghana Health Service over refusal to take off her hijab(Veil)

Reports reaching Ghanapage.com reveals that a young Muslim lady has been rejected by Ghana Health Service over her hijab.

According to the source, the lady was posted to the Greater Accra Regional office of the Ghana Health Service and was denied a place because she refused to take off her veil otherwise known as hijab.

The Muslim lady whose name has been capped for some reasons obtained an attachment letter from her school to the Ghana Health Service Accra office where it is to be endorsed for her.

The officials, however, told her they will only endorse the documents for her if she takes off her hijab which she refused.

Consequently, they also refused to give her letter while all her other Muslim colleagues who complied received theirs.

According to an influential journalist called Zainab Issah who had followed up on the story, she consulted Ghana Health Service who also steered her to the Health Ministry who finally revealed to her that there is no such directive that Muslim ladies had to take off their hijab.

Zainab said: “I was directed to the Ministry of Health and they insisted there was nothing wrong with her wearing the hijab as it had been legalized for Muslim girls to wear it.”

She further narrated that she proceeded to the Accra Office of the Ghana Health Service furnished with the response of the Health Ministry.

However, the officials there upon seeing her said they were “only joking” and didn’t mean to intensify the matter but still refused to give the lady the letter.

They later asked the lady to go to her place where she received the attachment and that her name had already been captured on the introductory letter sent by the Health Service. She got there and her name was not part.

Upon Investigations from the office, it was discovered that her name was canceled from the list and her name which was typed on the original appointment letter had been also canceled.

Copies of the letter have since gone viral on social media extracting condemnation from social media residents.
