Scores of miners are reported dead, with others injured, following a violent confrontation between local miners and military personnel assigned to provide security for AngloGold Obuasi Gold Mine.
The exact cause of the altercation remains unclear, but preliminary reports suggest the miners had invaded one of the company’s mine shafts, demanding access to a concession for their operations.
During the confrontation, gunshots were reportedly fired, leading to fatalities and injuries.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that about 10 miners lost their lives, with several others injured in the incident, which occurred on Saturday night.
Videos obtained by GhPage Media reveal disturbing scenes of injured individuals with varying degrees of injuries, while others were seen lifeless.
Additionally, the footage shows vandalised vehicles belonging to AngloGold Obuasi Mine and damage to other facilities.
Tension remains high in the area, as AngloGold Obuasi has faced persistent challenges over the years from local miners invading its concessions.
