American talk show host, actress and philanthropist Oprah Winfrey’s mother known as Vernita Lee passed on at the age of 83.
The death of Vernita was confirmed by Oprah’s niece, Alisha Hayes stating that she died on Thanksgiving day, November 22nd.

Vernita Lee had Oprah Winfrey in 1954 but moved to Milwaukee to work as a maid so she could not raise her daughter Oprah.
The Tv host had to be raised by her maternal grandmother but moved to Milwaukee at age 6 to live with her mother.
Oprah revealed that she had a rocky relationship with her mother due to the long separation but it got better with time.
Vernita is survived by Oprah and Patricia Amanda Faye Lee and grandchildren Chrishaunda Lee Perez, Alisha Hayes, Aquarius Lofton and Andre Brown, as well as great-grandchildren Jaxon Praise Perez, Chai Theresa Perez, Donovan Hayes and Trinity Hayes.
It is reported that a private funeral has already been held.
