The winner of the Season 5 of the MTN Hitmaker music reality show, Kurl Songx, has registered his displeasure at the turn of events at his year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

Prior to the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), Hiplife artiste Kurl Songx in an interview with Delay voiced with confidence that he deserves to be awarded as the best male vocalist in the pending VGMAs.

Speaking to Kwame Dadzie in an exclusive interview on Citi FM’s Celebrity Radar stated that he believed the organisers erred in their nominations.

According to him, while the video of his ‘Jennifer Lomotey’ deserved a Music Video of the Year nomination, he also thought he should have been nominated in the Male Vocalist of the Year.

“I want to ask why I didn’t make it to the Male Vocalist category… Are they saying that I’m not vocally talented? If I’m not then why did I win MTN Hitmaker in 2016? I’m not happy about these things. When You listened to Jennifer Lomotey, can you tell me that the voice content wasn’t top-notch?” He quizzed.

He further complained that ‘Jennifer Lomotey’ should have been nominated in the Highlife Song category – not Afropop.

“I wasn’t satisfied with the awards because we filed for Male Vocalist of the Year but I wasn’t nominated. We also filed for Highlife Song of the Year. I know for a fact that Jennifer is a pure highlife song but I didn’t get nominated for that. I was rather put under Afropop,” he said.

“My management put in a lot of work, shooting quality video in South Africa but it was not nominated. To me it wasn’t fair because I thought I had the tone of the best videos in the system,” he added.

He said he was also disappointed that he did not win the Best Collaboration of the Year award with ‘Jennifer Lomotey’ which features Sarkodie. That award went to Shatta Wale and the Militants for the song ‘Taking Over.’

Regardless Kaywa who doubles as the artist manager of Kurl Songx once disclosed that Mark Okraku Mantey, who happens to be part of the board apologised claiming it was an oversight for not considering Kurl Songx in the best male vocal category.
