Parliament Research Assistants of Ghana have not been paid for the past 7 months since they were employed by the government of Ghana, Ghpage.com can confirm. This revelation was made by the Parliament Research Assistants in a letter addressed to the Parliament of Ghana pleading for help to retrieve their delayed salaries.

In a copy of a letter sent to Ghpage.com, the research assistants have revealed that since they were employed in August 2018, they have not received a single salary. Per the contract, First Degree holders are to be paid GH¢1,974.83 and Second Degree holders GH¢2,298.33.

Besides their salaries, employed parliament research assistants are “not entitled to privileges, emolument, and allowance of officers of the Parliamentary Service of Ghana” so delay in their salary is making life extremely difficult for them, the letter obtained by Ghpage.com states.

Parliament Research Assistants are pleading with the President of Ghana, the Speaker of Parliament, the Majority speaker and all the powers that be to help retrieve their delayed salaries to enable them efficiently discharge their duties as Parliament Research Assistants.

RESEARCH ASSISTANTS
PARLIAMENT HOUSE
ACCRA
24TH JANUARY, 2019
THE CLERK
PARLIAMENT HOUSE
ACCRA

Dear Sir,

ATTENTION TO DELAYED SALARIES OF RESEARCH ASSISTANTS

Greetings from the entire Research Assistants of the Honourable Members of Parliament. We want to use this avenue to express our sincere gratitude for the efforts in making our roles as Research Assistants formalized; we pledge to significantly assist Members of Parliament with their research works to enhance their contributions toward a deepened democratic and developed Ghana.

Research Assistants received appointment letters on Friday, 17th August 2018 with a stated monthly salary of One Thousand, Nine Hundred and Seventy-Four Ghana Cedis and Eighty-Three Pesewas (GH¢1,974.83) and Two Thousand, Two Hundred and Ninety-Eight Ghana Cedis Thirty-Three pesewas (GH¢2,298.33) for First and Second degrees respectively.

It was expressly stated that research assistants are not entitled to privileges, emolument, and allowance of officers of the Parliamentary Service of Ghana and that the contract appointment as Parliamentary Research Assistants will effect from 3rd July 2018.

However, as at this day Thursday, 24th January 2019 no salaries have been paid to any Research Assistant.

This has become a great concern for all Research Assistants, considering the challenges of transporting ourselves to work, feeding, clothing, and meeting other basic needs; before the receipt of our contract letters, most Research Assistants were receiving some form of support from their bosses, however, pertinent to receiving the letters most Members of Parliament have seized to support their Research Assistants.

It is based on this genuine need of Research Assistants that we humbly write to crave your indulgence to see to it that the issue of Research Assistants’ salary is resolved to make our lives a bit easier.

We hope this plea will be favorably considered to ensure that Research Assistants are well conditioned to work effectively.

We count on your usual support and cooperation.
Thank you.

Yours sincerely,
Research Assistants
