A community in Eswatini has been left in shock after police arrested a church leader in connection with the alleged disappearance and murder of several women, following the discovery of four decomposing bodies near his church.
The suspect, Pastor Nkosingiphile Zwane, also known as Mphile Zwane, is the leader of the Apostolic Faith Church in the Matsapha area of Eswatini.
According to reports, Zwane was taken into custody after investigators linked him to the disappearance of several women. Authorities allege that he used social media platforms, particularly Facebook, to lure women by promising them romantic relationships or employment opportunities.
The investigation reportedly gained momentum after information shared by the Mufasa Eswatini social media page indicated that 29-year-old Bongiwe (Phethiwe) Mkhonta, who had been reported missing, was last seen in the company of the pastor.
Bongiwe reportedly disappeared on June 15, 2026, after leaving home for Matsapha, where she was said to be travelling for business.
Acting on the information, police launched an investigation that eventually led to the suspect’s arrest.
According to reports, Zwane allegedly led investigators to a shallow ditch in Mfabantfu, near his church, where police discovered the decomposing bodies of four women.
Authorities have confirmed that Bongiwe (Phethiwe) Mkhonta is among the victims recovered from the site.
Investigations are continuing to formally identify the remaining victims and determine the full circumstances surrounding their deaths.
Following his arrest, Pastor Zwane appeared before the Magistrate’s Court, where he is facing multiple charges, including rape and murder.
The case remains before the court, and the accused is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty through the judicial process.
The discovery has sent shockwaves across Eswatini, with many expressing grief for the victims and calling for justice.
Investigators are continuing to examine the evidence, identify any additional victims, and determine whether other offences may be linked to the case.
