Sarkodie is an award-winning Ghanaian hip hop recording artist and an entrepreneur from Tema.
Background
Sarkodie, originally known as Micheal Owusu Addo was born on 10th July 1985 to mother Maame Aggrey in Tema. He is the fourth of five children and was raised in Tema.
Sarkodie started rapping at a very tender age and this shaped him to be one of the finest and best rappers in Africa and beyond.

Education
Sarkodie attended Tema Methodist Senior High School and later went to IPMC where he obtained a degree in Graphic Design.
Rise to fame
Sarkodie started his music career as an underground rapper and later appeared on Adom Fm’s rap competition Kasahare level and through that met his former manager, Duncan Williams od Duncwills Entertainment.
He later met musicians like Edem and Castro, who introduced him to an established record producer called Hammer Of The Last Two.
Hammer was impressed with his rap flows and decided to feature him on two songs of the Volta Regime album.
After this exposure, Sarkodie released his debut album titled Makye and his first single ‘Baby’ featuring Mugees became an instant hit and shot him to the limelight.
The album received positive reviews from critics and fans and featured Kwaw Kese, Jayso, J-Town, Sway and Paedae.
On December 30th Sarkodie released his fourth album dubbed Mary which was a tribute to his grandmother who passed away in 2012.
Sarkodie sold nearly 4000 copies of the album on the first day of its release.
Sarkodie released his fifth album titled ‘Highest’ on September 8, 2017, which comprises of 19 songs.
Obidi, as he is popularly known, has become a household name in the Ghana Music Industry and across the world.

Marriage.
Sarkodie tied the knot with his long-term girlfriend, Tracy on 17th July 2018 in a private ceremony at the La Palm Royal Beach.
Sarkodie started this relationship with Tracy before he became a star and one of the prominent and successful musicians in Ghana now.
They have a beautiful daughter called Adalyn Owusu Addo.
Awards
The award-winning musician has won 77 awards out of 140 nominations at the Ghana Music Awards countless times.
He earned a nomination at the 2012 BET Awards which made him the only African to be nominated for such an award.
He also earned a nomination at the 2010Â MTV Africa Music Awards and the 2014 BET Awards again.
Sarkodie is a valuable asset to the Ghana Music Industry and has placed Ghana on the map.
He is currently the CEO OF Sarkcess Music and has nurtured top artists like Strongman and Akwaboah.
He has over 100 songs to his credit and has worked with many Ghanaian artists and other musicians around the world.
