Kwame Tutu who spoke with GhPage.com during his visit revealed he has been visiting orphanage since 2009 and not even once has he been happy with how kids in orphanage institutions live.

In a bold suggestion, Kwame Tutu encouraged the government to take important steps and scrub the traditional orphanage system for a more favorable system.

Kwame Tutu said:

Making many young people feel they are orphaned, live at the mercies of some ‘good-hearted’ people, live on the stipends of others is totally wrong and can create serious psychological problems for children living in needy or orphanage homes.

These institutions, whoever established them has outlived its usefulness. It’s my usual routine to visit orphanages and share my widows mute with inmates.

I started these visits in 2009 and have been doing that for a decade now. The little ones in these homes feel shy, troubled, worried to see people donating to them for survival especially those in teenage.

Every human has some amount of pride, and sometimes these kids find it difficult to ask. It’s time to find a better way of housing needy and orphaned kids,

The government of Ghana must take full responsibility for their welfare. How many orphanage kids/ needy kids are in Ghana that the state can not cater for them?

It is time society takes a second look at how we raise these disadvantaged kids, we are basically not grooming them to become confidant, independent kids as those who live in their homes.

The ‘boarding’ type of housing I suggest should be phased out. Proper home setting structures, Foster parents be hired and paid well to live with the kids like children living with their mothers and fathers.
