Preterm twins died in hospital because of lack of ambulance and essential amenities in Ghana – Midwife narrates

In times of drones proposal in parliament by the government to deliver essential medications to rural areas at a fast pace, a social media user has taken to Facebook to narrate an unfortunate incident that occurred to her yesterday.

The woman who sounded in her post like a midwife and identified as Dziedzorm Yawa Semordzie narrated how two preterm twins died on their way to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) because of poor amenities her hospital had and the lack of ambulances with required gadgets to sustain life.

According to Madam Semordzie, she delivered preterm twins who had to be transferred to KATH.

But because of lack of ambulance in her district, she had to call for an ambulance in another district.

Explaining further, she revealed that a 30mins drive took the ambulance almost 2hours to arrive with an excuse that he was in church.

The driver claimed he will charge 300ghc for transportation and after they agreed to pay and made checks on the ambulance, it had only one oxygen concentrator, meaning, one child would be ignored.

However, at the end of the story, both twins died. One died on their way to the hospital and the other died at the hospital.
