Rapper Sarkodie Discloses The Secret Behind Winning The BET Award In 2012

According to Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie, his fans made him win the Best International Act (Africa) at the 2012 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards because of how they helped push his brand.

The Ghanaian rapper was named joint winner with Nigeria’s Wizkid as Best International Act (Africa) at the 2012 BET Awards held July 1, 2012, in Los Angeles which made him the first Ghanaian to win that category of the BET Awards after failed attempts by Kojo Antwi and D-Black. Sarkodie said;

Speaking at an AFRIMA event, Sarkodie revealed how his fans helped him in winning the BET Award that year.

“BET told me straight to my face that they gave me the award because of the attitude of my fans, they are very aggressive and they called the BET office to ask if Sarkodie is bringing the award back home and that is how they care.”

The rapper, who was crowned the Artiste of the Year at the 2012 Ghana Music Awards, together with the Nigerian artiste Wizkid, were announced joint winners of the awards.

The two beat off competition from Iceprince (Nigeria), Camp Mulla (Kenya), Mokobe (Mali) and Lira (South Africa) to win an award which was once jointly won by Nigerian artistes, D’banj and 2face Idibia.

He commended his fans for their loyal support in making his brand a force to reckon with in the music industry.
