The Minister of Communications Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has directed that people should start bracing themselves up to re-register their mobile sim cards (Subscriber Identity Module) starting from January 1, 2020, to June 30, 2020, or forfeit their number.
According to the Minister of Communications, the new directive is to ensure and monitor the activities of bad people.
The minister also revealed that forms for the re-registration process or new SIM cards will be by the approved national biometric identity cards.
Ursula Ekuful announced this earlier today Monday, October 14 whiles speaking with the media during a “Meet the press session”.
She noted that valid ID cards that will be accepted for the process include Passports, Driver’s Licence, SSNIT, and the Ghana Card.
She added that a detailed program will be rolled out by the National Communications Authority, and will be conducted with the telecommunication companies.
In other news, the minister has ordered that all telcos in the country roll over all unused data and call credits.
“All unused data and voice bundles purchased by subscribers do not expire and must be rolled over with the next recharge,” the Ministry said in the statement.
