Reason why Bantama NPP MP,Kokofu filed as an independent candidate
Reliable information reaching ghpage.com explains the reason why Bantama NPP MP,Kokofu filed as an independent candidate.
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPPs) incumbent Member of Parliament (MP),Henry Kwabena Kokofu in the Ashanti region,Bantama filed to contest in the parliamentary election as an independent candidate.
His action,was described as shocking by party supporters and executives since the party has filed a candidate to represent them after the MP lost his bid to represent the party at their primaries in 2015.
Henry Kwabena Kokofu, lost to his opponent, Daniel Aboagye, in the party’s parliamentary primaries last year. Mr Kokofu in June 2015, polled 225, while his competitor Mr Aboagye polled 289 votes, after a keenly contested race.
The legislator almost everyday has represented the party on a number of radio stations and campaigned for the party towards the upcoming general polls. But his filing shocked everybody especially the party to file nomination as an independent candidate.
Update- Kokofu Withdraws as Independent Parliamentary candidate
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama Constituency Henry Kwabena Kokofu,just this morning withdrawn from December 7 parliamentary race as an independent candidate.
He has subsequently rendered an unqualified apology to the party over his ‘conduct’ after news over the weekend went viral that he filed his nominations to contest the seat he currently holds as an independent candidate
On Accra-based Peace Fm he said, “I apologise to my flagbearer, Nana Akufo Addo, leaders of the party, former President J. A. Kufuor and other people who were disturbed by the news that I had gone independent. I render an unreserved and unconditional apology to all of them”
The real reason behind his independent candidature;
Ghpage.com had to contact some people we know from the Bantama constituency to find out whats really happening as we found this shocking and cant accept just the face of it.
We first of all found a piece on the facebook wall of one of the kingpins of the NPP party from the Bantama constituency , Ohemeng Ian Moore which sought to explain the situation or perhaps the reason behind all the brouhaha;
Unedited ,He wrote;
BANTAMA CONSTITUENCY SEAT IS SAFE :
“There was an allegation of dual citizenship against the parliamentary candidate for the Npp in the Bantama constituency. Rumor has ran rife, that, the Ndc parliamentary candidate in the Bantama constituency has planned taking our PC to court over the same allegation. Hon. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, mp, Bantama constituency, filed his nomination to safeguard the seat,in a case where our parliamentary candidate is found guilty of the aforementioned allegation. Need I tell you the punishment?
In any event where our parliamentary candidate,Daniel Okyem Aboagye, is cleared by the E.c. and the court( that’s if Adusei, ndc parliamentary candidate takes us on) , hon. Kwabena Kokofu Henry,Esq., would gladly step down for Daniel Okyem Aboagye.
Hon. Kwabena Kokofu Henry lost to Daniel Okyem Aboagye in the npp primaries and he was convinced his successor had/has dual citizenship. I do not want to go into why he’s still convinced the pc is still not qualified and could be denied the courtesy of contesting. All I know for now is that Bantama seat is now 100% safe.
Yours truly, a constituent.”
He happens to be a close source , ghpage.com contacted him again via whatsapp,phone calls and he confirmed what he wrote and even added that , they have been summoned by the current NPP’s parliamentary candidate in the Bantama constituency Daniel Aboagye, as he seek to explain his citizenship.
We got a whatsapp message the MP sent to his party faithful,it reads;
I would like to invite all of you to my press conference scheduled for tomorrow at 10:30am prompt at the Npp office in Bantama – opposite Ashfood Hotel. The purpose of the press conference is to clear the mess around my citizenship. And for those of you who have not seen my documents before,I would like to say in no uncertain terms that, I have NEVER been a citizen of ANY country in my entire life but Ghana.”
