Sarkodie opens up on why he didn’t join NAM 1’s Zylofon Music

Rapper Sarkodie has said he refused to join the bandwagon of artistes who signed onto Zylofon Music during its inception because he had the music industry above his personal interest.

From 2017 onward, the CEO Nana Appiah Mensah, fondly called NAM 1, had superstars like Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Kumi Guitar, Joyce Blessing, Becca and others joining his label.

But Sarkodie refused to join NAM 1’s alliance of a crème de la crème of musicians.

During a recent chat on Big Vibes, Sarkodie shed light on the details of the contract with NAM 1 and disclosed why he turned it down.

He explained that NAM 1’s offer was made only for his benefit whereas he wanted other artists to be accessible to his wealth in order to turn things around in the music industry.

“I told NAM 1 I don’t think about myself alone because his interest was more in Sarkodie. I can’t fault him because any businessman will look at people who will be profitable to him.”

“For a very long time, I haven’t been about what Sarkodie can do for himself. I really want the Ghanaian industry to survive,” he said.

“That is the conversation that I had with NAM 1. So my approach was if the guy gets the bread, we have a lot of artists who are already in the system. We can just package them and push them with full force. If we had money, we would host a big show in America.”
