An 18-year-old boy, Sumaila, who is currently serving three years jail term at the senior correctional center has given some important security tips that will enable everyone to be careful at home or at their shops etc.

The teenager who was charged with an unlawful entry and narrating how he got into robbery said it was through a friend(peer pressure).

“I was at home when a friend called to tell him that, he has seen a container at Aburi Manfe full of phones and accessories so I should join him for a raid. I went to this friend who was then staying at Ashaiman”. He said

Sumaila confessed he had a very caring and responsible parents who provided him with anything he wants – yet he was overcome with greediness and wanted to get things on his own.

He said, his specialization in the field of robbery or operation was breaking-in on shops which he disclosed before his arrest, had made about 20 break-ins.

According to him, they use cutters which involve two people with one cutting each side of the locks.

Apart from locks, they use to enter containers through the T & G from the roofing. He revealed they break into the T&G using a flat screwdriver to drill and create a loophole.

He shockingly revealed that at times they use acid to corrode a part of the container so they can break into it.

“At where the owner will not see, We will pour it on it today, tomorrow and then the next day, till it gets rusted.” He revealed.

His security tips and advice

He advised shop owners to wire their containers with electrical shockers as he disclosed that was the remedy some shop owners in the Eastern Region did to prevent them from breaking into their shops.

“If you use the cutters on it, you will have a shock” he stated.

He also advised those using the T&G to stop as he knows it is not that strong to cover up the ceilings. In place of the T&G, he recommended a mental and quickly added the roof must not go too high from the container, as that creates a space for them to enter.

“The roof should be on the container so that, no space will be created for any human being or object to enter or penetrate.”He said

For houses that they broke in, he said they used a flat screwdriver to lose the locks. He advised that even if you use a glass gate, there should be a metal gate(burglar proof) behind the first gate (not in front, he stressed) to prevent attackers from entry even if they are able to break the first gate.

Narrating the operation that gave him up he said took place at Bodwease near Swedru in the central region. He indicated that after the operation, they got stopped by the police at a checkpoint.

He added, after every operation, they normally changed into a school uniform to deceive the police. But this time, the police realized they had laptops and phones packed under a set of biscuits in their bags.

The police then became suspicious which they started asking several questions and to avoid being captured, they took to their heels.
