Over the weekend a video went viral showing Shatta Wale, the self-styled Dancehall King in a fierce altercation with a police officer. After a while, Shatta Wale angrily drove off leaving the policeman behind.
According to the report, Shatta Wale’s car he had sent with one of his boys was stopped by the police officer. The driver called Shatta Wale over to talk to the policeman.
But according to Shatta Wale, the policeman called him a rascal and that led to the fierce confrontation captured in the video.
After days of silence, the Ghana Police Service has spoken about the incident in an interview with Hitz FM.
According to Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Sheila Buckman, the incident indeed happened and Shatta Wale was arrested but has been granted inquiry bail.
DSP Sheila Buckman explained that not only was the Range Rover stopped by the police unregistered, it also had no number plate. DSP Sheila Buckman said:
“In an attempt for the policeman to ask questions… Shatta Wale assaulted the police officer and also exhibited insulting behavior.”
“Because of that, he was arrested on Sunday and he’s been granted police inquiry bail to reappear at the police station.”
She added: “If you look at Act 29 [of the Criminal Code 1960], a person does an act of assault where the intent is to lead to harm or cause any other event that will lead to harm”
