The Free SHS program is the flagship policy of the ruling New Patriotic Party in Ghana and it kicked off on Tuesday, 12th September 2017.
At least an estimation of 400,000 students who graduated from the Junior High Schools across the country and have just entered the nation’s Senior High Schools will be beneficiaries of the program.
The Free SHS will cost $100 million out of which about 25% of the total cost has been paid to the schools.
Due to the huge cost involve and the fact that it is on the back of Free SHS that NPP rode to power, it is very particular about its implementation and the leaders have vowed to deal with any body seen to be sabotaging the program.
It’s based on this that the Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted 11 heads of state out of which 2 have been dismissed for going contrary to the directives given them by the GES whiles the rest are under investigation.
