Mrs Agnes Owusu-Afryie also popularly known as Akosua Darkoah who is the wife of late Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie popularly known as Sir John is heading to court after executors of her husband will allegedly sideline her during sharing of the properties.

According to a source, Charles Owusu and one Nana Boakye Akeampong of Old Tafo, who were jointly appointed as Executors of Sir John’s Will by the late Sir John, are being barred from continuing to share his estates until the matter is properly heard by the court.

Sir John’s family, according to the widow, has failed to recognise her ill health and has also refused to provide any financial assistance to maintain her, despite the fact that they are aware that her husband did not make proper preparations for her as a surviving spouse.

She claims that no proper provisions were made for her, citing Section 13 of the Wills Act, Act 360 of 1971, and Article 22(1) of the 1992 constitution and that she is relying on the law court for justice.

Sir John’s Will was read in court without her knowledge four months after his husband’s death, according to his wife.

Her lawyer claims that the will failed to provide “quite appropriate provisions” for her and that multiple attempts to meet with the family, including the estate’s executors, failed.

According to the documents, the situation is so poor that large sums of money accumulated in the form of gifts and support during the late Sir John’s burial have not been properly accounted for, and no meeting to look into the subject has been scheduled to date.

Mrs Owusu-Afriyie “contributed immensely” to Sir John’s success, according to a statement of claim filed by her lawyer, Africanus Owusu-Ansah Esq, and revealed that at the time of his death, he left behind “substantial properties” and devised most of the properties and bank accounts in Ghana and Europe to his three nephews Ruth Korkor, Michael Owusu, and Kwabena Amoateng.

Mrs. Owusu-Afryie informed the court that she is generally based in the United Kingdom, where she lived with late Sir John and was the one who “prompted” him to travel to Ghana and become involved in politics.

Late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie (popularly known as Sir John) was a Ghanaian lawyer and politician who lived from 1957 until 2020. He served as the General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party, among other political positions.

Before his death, he was the chief executive officer of Ghana’s Forestry Commission.
