Isaac Kwame Asiamah faced Parliament on Wednesday, July 24, 2019
The Minister of Youth and Sports has disclosed that in excess of $4.5 million was spent by Ghana at the just-ended Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Isaac Kwame Asiamah told Parliament on Wednesday, July 24 that over $6 million was approved for the Black Stars’ campaign.

He, therefore, assured that the remainder of the funds will be returned to the government chest for appropriation.

Mr. Asiamah, who is also Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua Constituency, was on the floor of Parliament to account for the failed campaign of the senior national men’s soccer team to annex a fifth title.

Ghana was knocked out in the Round of 16 by Tunisia but, according to the breakdown given by the Minister, $1,489,432 was expended on winning bonuses. The playing body received $965,405 in winning bonuses.

Among those covered by the expenditure are some staff of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Football Association (GFA), some members of the Ghana Supporters Union as well as some journalists.

“Despite all the support for the Black Stars, the team performed below expectation,” the Sports Minister said.

He announced that the reorganization of football in the country will be comprehensively addressed as his sector has called for a report on the performance of the team from the Normalisation Committee
