A pastor has sparked social media angst with his action after he showed off the huge savings he made from tithes and offerings paid to him by his congregants.
In a video, the clergyman displayed five piggy banks and hired some lads to smash them.
As expected, a large sum of money was emptied from the various boxes, totalling one million, nine hundred and fifty thousand naira (N195M), according to him.
According to him, the video is intended to serve as a source of inspiration for people in order to help them develop a saving culture.
On the back of that, many believe the church has become a money-making machine at the expense of the poor. The assertion that pastors and church leaders are milking the church for their own good has been given much credence.
