Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Sam ‘Dzata’ George has thrown his full support to the mandatory vaccination on arrival in Ghana.

According to him, the government’s mandate on mandatory vaccination upon arrival is a “solid public health strategy and a very beneficial step,” adding that it does not infringe on the rights of Ghanaians or travellers entering the country.

As a result of the new COVID-19 variation, Omicron, Ghana released an updated travel recommendation for foreign travellers.

From December 14, 2021, the travel advisory, which is divided into eight categories, will be in force.

The new policy places vaccination and adherence duty on both passengers and airlines, with airlines refusing to board passengers who are not adequately vaccinated or do not have documentation of an acceptable COVID-19 test.

In a Twitter post about the development, Sam George said: “I am in favor of it and hope that it is actively executed. Personal liberty take a back seat to public health concerns.”

“It is compulsory for all unvaccinated anyone intending to enter Ghana or attend mass public gatherings,” he said of the vaccine.

“Why aren’t people protesting the yellow card requirement?” Sam George had enquired.

He also advised unvaccinated Ghanaians to stay at home if they did not wish to receive the vaccine.

“No one would ask you for an immunization card if you stayed at home,” he added.
