Ghanaian music is no longer just a local treasure; it’s rapidly gaining global recognition. According to Prince Asenso, Ypee’s road manager, this shift is something he has personally witnessed while managing the rising star.
“It’s been an incredible journey,” Prince Asenso shared, “from local shows in Kumasi to seeing our music appreciated worldwide on streaming platforms and everywhere.”
Prince Asenso highlighted the role of digital platforms in driving this change. “One of the biggest transformations I’ve noticed is how digital platforms like Spotify and Apple Music have empowered artists like Ypee to reach fans across the globe.
A song we release in Kumasi can now be heard in the U.S., Europe, or Asia within minutes. It’s amazing.”
However, Asenso pointed out that this global reach brings new challenges for road managers.
“It’s not just about handling logistics and booking local shows anymore,” he explained.
“Now, we’re always strategizing on how to break into new markets and collaborate with international acts. The role of a road manager has evolved, and I’m more involved in shaping Ypee’s brand globally.”
Prince Asenso, YPEE’s road manager also stressed the importance of maintaining authenticity as Ghanaian artists gain international success.
“While it’s great to be recognized globally, I always advise Ypee to stay true to his Kumasi roots. It’s the unique Asakaa sound that got him noticed, and that’s what resonates with listeners abroad,” he noted.
In conclusion, Prince Asenso believes this global recognition is just the beginning.
“The world is opening its ears to Ghanaian music, and I’m excited to be part of a movement that’s elevating not just Kumasi, but the entire Ghanaian music industry. The best is yet to come.”
