A microwave is an electric oven that is used for reheating previously cooked foods and in other cases cooking a variety of foods.
The microwave is a great invention as it is useful for rapid heating of slowly prepared foodstuffs such as hot butter, chocolate or porridge.

However, there are some foods that should not be microwaved because they cause serious damage to our health.
Below are some foods that should never be microwaved;
1. Eggs
It is not a good idea to cook an egg in a microwave because it emits radio waves that channel heats directly to the food.
This makes a lot of steam comes out of the egg which can make the egg explode.
2. Styrofoam
It is a kind of expanded polystyrene used especially for making food containers. It is not advisable to put styrofoam in a microwave it released toxic chemicals to the food and then to you which is harmful to your health.
3. Bread
Microwaving bread will ruin it leaving the bread moist and chewy. It is advisable that you avoid it.

4. Yoghurt, sour cream and butter containers
People normally reuse these containers but they are made to be used once and then later discarded.
Exposing them to the microwave will make the plastic material melt and release harmful chemicals to your food.
5. Aluminium Foil
Aluminium foil is a kind of metal and can catch fire inside the microwave. To prevent this from happening, take the left over from the aluminium foil into microwave-safe container.
6 Fruits
It will be surprising if people prefer microwaved fruits. But one fact is, it is not advisable as fruits such as grapes could explode and can even start a fire.
7. Hot Peppers
When you microwave hot pepper, the chemical that makes it spicy called the capsaicin will evaporate.
As soon as you open the microwave, the vapour will emanate and burn your eyes and throat. It is not advisable to do that.

8. Breast Milk
Many lactating mothers freeze breast milk and later heated when the baby needs it. However, according to the Food and Drug Administration(FDA), microwaving breast milk can heat in unevenly, creating hot spots that could scald the baby’s sensitive palate.
9.Processed meat
Microwaving processed meat such as a hot dog is a bad idea. Microwaving processed meat can lead to the formation of cholesterol oxidation products (COPs) which can lead to coronary heart diseases.
10. Leafy green vegetables
Leafy greens are very dangerous in a microwave as it can spark fire destroying the microwave and the vegetables.
Microwaves can be extremely useful appliances, there are some things, however, should never be put in a microwave.
