This is the Black Stars team that won our hearts – Sam George

The Black Stars inability to beat Gabon in their second group match at the ongoing AFCON in Cameroon has rekindled some level of nostalgia amongst local supporters.

Many believe the current team lacks the commitment, verve and energy required for them to make it to the final of any tournament and to win a trophy.

Sam George shares the same sentiments by referencing the recent past generation of Black Stars players. According to him, although they failed to win a trophy, they gave Ghanaians reasons for them to be upbeat about the team.

The performance of the team at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups coupled with the ability of that same squad to make it to the final of the 2020 AFCON in Angola was the reason, Sam George wrote: “this Black Star team may not have brought us any trophies, but they won our hearts with their effort, unity and spirit.”

Just like many Ghanaians, Sam George cast doubts about the fortunes of the current squad and the lackadaisical attitude of the team.

“…As for the current team eh, you it is okay let me go and look for some waakye in my wife’s kitchen.”

Asamoah Gyan’s name has been on the lips of many local fans following the recent teams’ inability to win their games.

It is believed that the team lacks leadership and a prolific striker like the ‘Baby Jet’ who has the capability to score very special goals out of nothing.

Ghana would need to beat the Comoros Islands on Tuesday to stand the chance of qualifying to the Round of 16 stage of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2021).
