Accra, Ghana’s capital, has been named the best place to visit in Africa by TIME magazine.

The award puts the city ahead of Mozambique’s Benguerra Island and Egypt’s Cairo, which came in second and third place, respectively.

According to TIME’s 2021 World’s Greatest Places, Accra is now easier to reach thanks to the numerous flights that arrive in the country on a daily basis.

It stated that there will be many things for tourists to see in the capital, such as museums, beaches, and the arts.

It also stated that Accra is a must-see destination for visitors interested in learning about Africa’s history and culture.

The nightlife in Accra, as well as good food, were included on the list of things visitors should look out for.

Prior to compiling the list of the World’s Greatest Places, TIME solicited nominations of places—including countries, regions, cities, and towns—from our international network of correspondents, with a focus on those that offer new and exciting experiences.

TIME’s third annual list features one hundred extraordinary travel destinations from around the world.
