A nine-week-old baby boy died at the St Gregory Hospital at Kasoa in the Central Region because his parents could not afford the cost of paying GHC 533 to aid him to breathe through an oxygen machine.
The parents of a nine-week-old baby have narrated the sad circumstances under which they lost their son at the St Gregory Hospital at Kasoa in the Central Region.

Speaking in an interview on Joy News TV, Little Prosper’s parents revealed that a medical doctor on duty pulled the plug from the oxygen machine after all attempts to pay GHC533 to keep their son alive couldn’t materialise.
New reports gathered by Ghpage.com suggests that the father of the Baby rushed to the hospital with the required amount just hours after the little patient’s oxygen supply was cut off by doctors leading to his death.

Narrating the story, mother of the deceased, Sefakor, said the doctor had asked her if her husband, Kennedy Kwao, was making efforts to pay the bill. She opined that on the day of the unfortunate incident the doctor came and enquired from her if she had heard from Prosper’s father, Kennedy Kwao, concerning the money for the bill.
“I [said] I didn’t hear, then he removed the oxygen,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has condemned such cruel act.

Speaking in an interview with Joy FM, Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare stressed that it is wrong for a health official to cut oxygen supply to a patient over bills if the patient has a chance of surviving.
“… If you believe that the person will survive and you take off the oxygen mask because the child’s father or mother could not afford to pay, then it is unacceptable.”
