Kofi Donkor, the husband of celebrated Ghanaian gospel artist Celestine Donkor, has reacted angrily after receiving a meagre sum from GHAMRO as royalties.
The Ghana Music Rights Organization had sent GH¢390.40 to Celestine Donkor as royalties generated on her songs for the year.
In a Facebook post, Mr Kofi Donkor bemoaned the fact that after long hours of work and airplay, an artist would receive such a scanty amount as royalty from GHAMRO.

According to him, it was not right for artists to receive such amounts as royalties especially when they had to put in more money, invest a lot into their craft and sweatily produce songs.
His post also served as a clarion call to industry players to rise against the money they receive from GHAMRO as royalties.
We need to do everything possible to get the structures working so such insults will be a thing of the past!
Let’s wake up Music Right Owners!!
Enough is enough!!
The irregularities in the royalties paid by GHAMRO coupled with the peanuts they send to artists have become a topical issue in recent years. Many artists have complained bitterly about the phenomenon and asked for change.
On the side of GHAMRO, they have also tried to painstakingly explain the reason the royalties are low by stating reasons such as poor monetization amongst others.
Meanwhile, artists have been advised to put their songs on major streaming platforms where they are assured of maximum returns.
