Video: Homosexuality Bound To Be Legalized In Ghana – President Akufo-Addo

Ghana President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has disclosed to Aljazeera that homosexuality legalization is bound to happen in Ghana some years to come.

The president revealed this in response to a question asked by the host about what is happening in Ghana regarding homosexuality being illegal and punishable.

“This is the socio-cultural issues if you like. I don’t believe that in Ghana so far, a sufficiently strong coalition has emerged which is having that impact on public opinion that will say change it. Let us have a new paradigm in Ghana” he replied.

When also asked about the possibility of homosexuality legalization in the country and if it something his administration will want to pursue, he responded:

”It is something that is bound to happen”

The host in her additional question further thrown on the President on what will provoke the legalization of homosexuality in his country, the President in his power stated:

” like elsewhere in the world, Like elsewhere in the world the activities of individuals or groups. I grew up in England, I went to school as a young boy and I grew up at a time homosexuality was done there and was illegal and I lived the period.”

Nana Addo making reference to other countries cited an example saying, the activities of individuals and groups and certain awareness grew stronger that changed the law on homosexuality in England at the time.

He concluded that these are some of the processes that can lure such changes in Ghana but said these are not matters on the national agenda.

“I don’t feel, I don’t  see that in Ghana that there is that strong current of opinion that is saying this is something we need to deal with. It is not so far a matter on the agenda”, he explained.
