“He wanted a share of the national cake”,a politician told me – Nana Aba Anamoah

Award-winning journalist and broadcaster, Nana Aba Anamoah has advised her fellow journalists not to accept gifts from any politician as the election period is approaching.

The presenter of The State of Affairs on GHOne tv has said she declines gifts and such from any influencers in the political field.

Speaking in an interview on the Joy Super Morning show, the journalist stated she did well to not accept any favors from politicians. In response to a question on the relationship between journalists and politicians, Nana Aba said that in this season of elections, the men in journalism were most likely to receive gifts from politicians than the women.

She said that the perception of journalists, especially the women receiving favours from politicians is sometimes exaggerated. Speaking on her own experience, the broadcaster said, “I remember one prominent politician calling me after a news bulletin to ask for his share of the national cake.”

The broadcaster also added that she is above the influence of charging by the politicians, and complained about the decline in human resources at media companies. She blamed the fact that media houses were not treating their employees well which is what has led to many people moving into the corporate world. She said that media houses have become mere stepping stones for people to move into the corporate world.

She asked, “Why can’t we have people saying I am leaving my banking job to go and work at Multimedia because they will give me a better offer.” And added that she would like media houses to be considered ‘greener pastures’ as well.
