You are wasting our money on students with grade 30 to 50 – Dressmakers tell Government

Ghana National Dressmakers and Tailors Association secretary for the Central region Francisca Acquah has advised the Akuffo Addo led government to take a look again at his free SHS policy.

According to her, since the implementation of the policy, the number of apprentices they get have reduced because those that failed the BECE examination now continue to SHS because of free education.

Speaking at a graduation event in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District, she said it was time for some of these students with poor grades to be transferred to the fashion sector.

She argued that most of these students would not go beyond secondary school education into the universities.

“Students with grades between 30 to 50 need to be in the fashion sector and not spend their time in schooling because of Free Senior High School Policy.

The government is wasting the time of student with grade 30 to 50 because they most likely will not continue to the universities,” Mrs. Francisca Acquah said.

She further explained that it is important to make such students learn a trade right after they complete JHS so that they would have their handiwork and make some money.
