The unnamed MP who made an insulting statement about Dr. Zanetor Rawlings has been given a week to come forward or face repercussions by the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.
“Daughter of a murderer, sit down!” was yelled by an unidentified male voice during legislative proceedings on February 4, 2025, as Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin was speaking to the House.
Tensions in the room were raised by a contentious discussion over the 60th anniversary of Joseph Boakye Danquah’s passing, which coincided with the outburst.
Speaker Bagbin denounced the comment as “dishonourable and unbefitting of a sitting MP” in his March 3, 2025, address.
If the guilty party did not voluntarily come forward within a week, he said, Parliament would act.
“This House cannot condone such reckless and offensive behaviour. I am giving the culprit one week to own up, or the necessary steps will be taken to ensure accountability,” Bagbin declared.
He also expressed regret to the chiefs and people of Anlo, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, and their families, promising that Parliament would not put up with such behavior.
