“You’ll be jailed five years for any false prophecy” – Police forewarns ‘doom’ prophets

The Ghana Police Service has warned against false prophecy or declarations that adversely affect the life and right of individuals it is intended for.

Ahead of prophecies that would be declared at the end of the year, The Ghana Police Service, in a statement has forewarned prophets and religious organizations to be circumspect in their utterances.

According to the police, the instances where doom prophecies were made to inject fear and panic into people would not be tolerated.

The service insists that individuals or religious organizations whose prophecies will break the laid down rules and procedures could be arrested, prosecuted and jailed for 5 years.

“We want to caution that under Ghanaian law, it is a crime for a person to publish or reproduce a statement which is likely to cause fear and alarm to the public or to disturb the public peace, where that person has no evidence to prove that the statement, rumour or report is true,” excerpts of police statement reads.
