Youth of Asamankese attack fire service & police for arriving late

The youth of Asamankese in the Eastern Region attacked personnel from the Police and fire service for arriving late after they placed several calls to the security agency about a fire outbreak.

The Kwahu Lane Market Stores on Tuesday evening caught fire and the security personnel were alerted but they arrived late at the scene which infuriated the youth.

The Police, in turn, had to fire several warning shots to disperse the angry youth who were throwing sticks, stones and other weapons at them.

According to reports, the Asamankese District Commander Chief Superintendent J.N.K Ackah arrived at the scene with 6 Community Protection Assistants and 4 policemen after receiving a distress call about a fire outbreak.

However, the youth felt they arrived late at the scene and attacked them which resulted in the Ghana Fire Service Tender windscreen being shattered with stones.

A civilian identified as Richard Yirenkyi aged 22 was injured on the forehead and security personnel also suffered injuries on his head.

Both were rushed to the Asamankese government hospital for treatment after the fire service personnel absconded the area without putting out the fire due to the attack by the angry youth.

It was also reported that a police reinforcement team from Adeiso and Akwatia arrived at the scene to restore tranquillity.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown but the residents were able to quench the fire after several damages.
