Baba Sadiq defends Sarkodie after slamming Ghanaian media

Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu, the Chief Executive Officer of 3 Music Networks, has waded into the uproar that has erupted following rapper Sarkodie’s recent criticism of the media.

In a chat with Firestick, Sarkodie said he is appalled by the barrage of criticism Ghanaian artistes are subjected to from local media people.

According to him, these artistes have toiled to build their careers to the top, and it is quite unacceptable for a journalist who has not seen any international exposure to continuously bash them.

“It is easy for someone to sit on the radio and say that Shatta Wale or Sarkodie didn’t do this or that. I know that artists have things we should do because every time there is a step but if you are on a Ghanaian radio for close to 20 years and you’ve not moved to a platform like Choice or BBC, I don’t think you have the moral right to talk about Ghanaian artistes who have not moved,” said Sarkodie.

His remarks sparked fury among media personalities who viewed his comments as a spit on their support for his music career spanning over 10 years. But Sadiq agrees with Sarkodie and says the rapper did not goof in his statement.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Baba Sadiq said musicians are not the only professionals who need to make progress in their careers.

The media and Entertainment entrepreneur chided individuals who brace themselves as entertainment pundit but do not make any impact on creatives and the industry as a whole.

“You can’t be a 20-year pundit veteran with nothing to show for it”, he said.

“The media has created a new work line for empty pundits who will wake up and realize that they’ve done 10 years of that and the only value or the only thing they’re known for is often attention-grabbing but empty headlines or attacks on talents and people”.
