‘E-LEVY will help create more jobs and stop us from depending on debt” – Akufo-Addo to Ghanaians

The government has emphasized the importance of instituting an electronic levy, also known as an e-levy.

On Wednesday, January 27, 2022, the President tweeted that the E-Levy will, among other things, reduce the country’s reliance on foreign aid.

His remark is part of the government’s efforts to educate the public about the need for the controversial e-levy, which includes a nationwide town hall meeting that begins today, Thursday, in Koforidua.

“The e-levy will provide the government with revenue to build more roads, provide more jobs and opportunities for the youth and reduce our dependence on debt.“

According to the government, the feedback from the engagement will help it decide how to implement the levy.

The E-levy is a new tax measure introduced by the government in the 2022 Budget that applies to basic digital payments and electronic platform transactions.

On a daily basis, electronic transactions worth more than GH100 will incur a 1.75 per cent fee.
