A young Ghanaian man identified as Erasmus Quao has been assaulted in a suburb in Accra, Nima for suspected gay activities.
Erasmus Quao, who has long been suspected of being gay by some community members of Nima, was subjected to severe beatings by some angry members on August 7, 2021, after he was accused of gay activities by unknown people.
According to reports, Erasmus allegedly went out on a date with his supposed boyfriend to celebrate his birthday and was spotted by some neighbors who blew the whistle to other members of the community and they didn’t take it lightly.
Fueled by anger, Erasmus, upon his return to his home, was dragged out of his house by the angry mob and subjected to severe beatings for allegedly being gay.
With the Nima community being an Islamic-dominated society, homosexuality is something they abhor and consider taboo; as such, they strongly fight against such activities with blessings from most leaders of the Islamic sect.
Eyewitnesses told GhPage.com Erasmus has long been warned by some people in the community for being gay and has often been treated with disdain for his choice of sexuality.
“He is lucky he was able to escape with his life, we wanted to kill him. He will bring curses to this community if he is allowed to live with us with such taboo practices” ” an eyewitness and member of the angry mob told a reporter.
At the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of Erasmus Quao believed to be in his late 20s, is unknown, and his family has refused to comment on the incident.
His alleged boyfriend is yet to be identified. Ghpage.com is following the report and will keep our audience updated. Keep refreshing
