Historian reveals the profound reason why people from the Volta Region are referred to as Number 9

Have you ever wondered why the people from the Volta Region of Ghana are called Number 9?.

Since our primary school days, some of us were made to believe that the Voltarians are referred to as number 9 because they are mostly placed on the number nine spot when listing the then 10 regions of Ghana.

Though they dislike being called and addressed by the number 9 tag, the people from the Volta Region (Ewes) in Ghana are easily identified by the tag as it has been deeply printed in the minds of the majority.

The search is over as a historian has revealed the profound reason the Ewes got the name tag that is used to identify them.

In a video sighted on social media, the historian explained the reason behind the name Number 9.

He went deep, giving the facts and the happenings and backgrounds that bred the tag number 9 for Ewes.

According to the historian in the video making rounds, Ewes are referred to as Number 9 because of two reasons.

He, however, mentioned that there is only one that makes the tag very popular according to the history of the Ewes.

The man disclosed that the first reason behind the name came about after a lady from Volta Region named Monica Ablah Amekoafia emerged victor in a beauty contest (Miss Ghana in 1957 ) organized by Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

The historian revealed that Monica (The First Miss Ghana) had the number 9 tag on her wrist when she won and that generated the popular name Number 9 given to the people of Volta Region.
