“I didn’t enter politics to make make money like other politicians” – Kufuor

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has ruled out money as a motivation for his decision to venture into politics.

According to him, he did not enter politics and make money or amass wealth at the expense of the poor and vulnerable.

Speaking in an interview with Alfred Ocansey of TV3, Mr Kufuor said he was destined to be a political leader who renders unselfish service to his people and better their livelihoods.

Unlike other politicians who see politics as cash-cow to be milked, Mr Kufuor said he was already well-to-do and had occupied several leadership positions before he officially entered politics.

Therefore, the motivation was never to make money but to serve.

“I didn’t go into politics to make money as it seems. I felt there was a mission for me to pursue to better my society. Before 30, I had held several positions and I believe I would have the chance to lead this country.”

“Now, you hear politicians pay so much to enter politics by paying delegates. They are spreading a very cynical attitude among the rank and file. They create the impression as a politician you need to buy your way to power. That defeats the purpose of the founding fathers,” he said.
