Kennedy Agyapong loses court case again against Anas Aremeyaw Anas

The member of parliament for Assin Central, Honourable Kennedy Agyapong has lost to Anas Aremeyaw Anas once again as an Accra High Court has dismissed an application by lawyers for Kennedy Agyapong to halt the defamation suit.

According to reports sighted on Adomonline, the lawmaker, Mr. Agyapong, and his lawyers filed an appeal to challenge a verdict by the judge to sustain an objection raised by lawyers for Anas Aremeyaw Anas during cross-examination of Mr. Anas’ lawful attorney.

Henceforth, the Attorneys for Honourable Agyapong demanded Mr. Anas’ lawful attorney to mention the number of people in the ‘who watches the watchman’ documentary video.

Nevertheless, lawyers for Mr. Anas objected on grounds that the question is irrelevant and unfair for a person to mention the number of people in a video from memory, especially when he was not the one who produced the film.

As such, the judge agreed with the objection and asked lawyers for Honourable Kennedy Agyapong to ask another question.

However, lawyers for Kennedy Agyapong stated that they could not ask any more questions except Anas’ attorney answers that question.

Afterward, they filed an Appeal at the Court of Appeal and also applied for a stay of proceedings.

Unfortunately for Kennedy Agyapong and his lawyers, the Court today, July 21, 2020, dismissed the application on grounds that Honourable Agyapong and his lawyers failed to raise any exceptional circumstances under which the trial should have stayed.

The judge however ordered them to continue with their cross-examination and moreover awarded a cost of GHC1, 500.00 against Kennedy Agyapong with the case adjourned to October 30, 2020.
