Gayys and Lezbians in Ghana to embark on a ‘peaceful’ demonstration in December – Details

Barley 48 hours after the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo assured the LGBTI community in Ghana on Aljazeera that gayy and lezbian rights laws might be passed in the future, the association of LGBTI has congratulated the President on his emphatic response to the gayy rights assurance in Ghana. And has hinted at a ‘peaceful’ demonstration.

President Akufo-Addo when asked about the possibility of hom0sex*ality being legalized in the country and if it’s something his administration will want to pursue, he responded:

”IT IS SOMETHING THAT IS BOUND TO HAPPEN”

This statement among others have sparked outrage from not just the religious bodies in Ghana but the general public who think its an abomination and the cultural values of the county frowns on it.

But the gayy and lezbian community in Ghana has expressed their gratitude to the president for what they described as an emphatic response to gayy assurance law by the president.

Reacting to the president’s interview, the LGBTI association in Ghana hinted of a ‘Peaceful’ demonstration to be organized to extend their gratitude to the president and also to officially present their demands to the president.

“Consistent with our calm demeanor there will be a peaceful Movement Walk on Friday 15th December 2017 from Obra Spot to the Flagstaff house to thank the President Akufo Addo and his government and present the mission and vision of the LGBTQI Movement,” excerpts of the statement reads.

Hom0sex*al activities are currently illegal in Ghana and culprits can be sentenced to a maximum of 15 years in prison according to the laws of Ghana.
