Burniton Music Signee, Kelvyn Boy has revealed that Ghana’s music industry awards organizers need to create a category for Afrobeat genre in award shows

According to Kelvyn boy, the Afrobeats genre birthed by Highlife is climbing fast in the music space and needs to stand alone as an award category instead of being merged with others.

Speaking in an interview on the Day Break Hitz on HitzFM, Kelvyn Boy who recently released his 8 track ‘Time’ EP urged his fellow musicians to uphold the highlife legacy.

“We did Afrobeats 50 years back before Nigerians started. It got influenced by highlife and a lot of songs we jam to now, are Afrobeats songs. Imagine we don’t even have our own Afrobeats,” he told Andy Dosty host of the show.

He added, Ghanaians should not wait for other countries to carry the genre like Nigerians have done before they own up to it.
