COVID-19: GMA mounts fresh pressure on Akufo-Addo; calls for a nationwide lockdown

The Ghana Medical Association(GMA) after its first call on the President on locking down the country yielded partial results as only the epicentres of the coronavirus in Ghana are in lockdown for a number of weeks.

The GMA lead by their Veep again is mounting fresh pressure on President Akufo-Addo to lockdown Ghana as the only way to reduce further spread of the deadly coronavirus.

Vice president of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) Dr. Frank Serebour said in an interview;

“At this moment we should know how we tackle the whole country in general. Whether there are recorded cases or not. I think the whole country would have to come under some degree of restriction. It shouldn’t be limited to Accra and Kumasi”

Dr Frank Serebour in his assertions rebuked the President’s directive describing it as wrong and a “door opportunity” for people to escape from one region to the other.

“What really went wrong under the lockdown was that window opportunity people had to flee from their various regions to other regions”, he said.

“As we speak now, all the other regions have recorded cases, therefore, it is important to consider if the restrictions in the whole country”, Dr. Frank Serebour added.

Their statement comes a few days after the number of positive cases shot up to 566 with 8 deaths.
