In our part of the world having children as a woman, is seen as a sort of validation of their womanhood.
This has resulted in a sort of stigma for women who have not yet had a child of their own. Many women in our society who are unable have children go through a lot. Popular Nigerian celebrity has just disclosed that she is unable to have children.
Nse Ikpe-Etim, has disclosed that she can never have a child on her own after she was made to remove her uterus in order to live a normal life.
According to the actress, she has long come to terms with that and thanked her husband for being her shield during those hard times
“I was told I couldn’t have kids. And so, I had to have a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) to make me have a life again and to stop going through what I was going through. And I’m literarily telling women and men, it really doesn’t matter if you can’t bear children. What really matters is what you would do for the world, for the universe.”
Recounting the very day the doctor made this daunting revelation, she said;
“Tears dropped and then my husband squeezed my hand. It was reassuring there was someone there and it was telling me that this is a reality, my reality.”
