At a ceremony held at St. James’s Palace, Charles III was crowned king.

After his mother Queen Elizabeth II passed away, Charles immediately ascended to the throne, but a historic gathering on Saturday formally recognized him in that capacity.

He was proclaimed the monarch at the State Apartments by the Accession Council, a group of top politicians, judges, and officials.

The momentous event is being shown on television for the first time.

The King did not initially attend the ceremony, but he did show up for the second portion when the Privy Council met for the first time.

The remark was repeated back by everyone in the crowded room, including the Queen Consort, the Prince of Wales, and Prime Minister Liz Truss.

Before saying “God Save the King,” Clerk of the Privy Council Richard Tilbrook referred to Charles as “King, ruler of the Commonwealth, and protector of the religion.”

Making his own declaration, the King said: “My lords, ladies and gentlemen, it is my most sorrowful duty to announce to you the death of my beloved mother the Queen.

“I know how deeply you, the entire nation, and I think I may say the whole world, sympathise with me in the irreparable loss we’ve all suffered.

“It is the greatest consolation to me to know the sympathy expressed by so many to my sister and brothers.

“And that such overwhelming affection and support should be extended to our whole family in our loss.”
